about this project
After losing their retail sales building to a fire, Windsor Plywood Salt Spring Island needed to build a new expanded state-of-the-art steel facility that could organize and store their inventory of building materials. Double Black Construction helped bring their vision to reality.
Windsor Plywood and Double Black Construction have been working together to create a modern products retail facility in Ganges, Salt Spring Island. The project involves two new pre-engineered steel commercial buildings, connected by a large second-floor mezzanine, that cover a total of 18,000 square feet. The entire structure is supported by a massive concrete retaining wall foundation to protect it against water runoff from the area’s hilly terrain.
On June 1, 2021, Windsor Plywood Salt Spring lost their retail store overnight to a fire and has since been operating out of a 4,500 square foot event tent. The construction of the new structure has attracted a lot of excitement, support and pride within the Salt Spring community.
The new sales and storage areas allow Windsor Plywood to increase their inventory of products for industrial and residential clients and will help the business better serve the Salt Spring community. Working with Double Black Construction, facility construction began in November 2024 and continued throughout winter and into the fall of 2025.
