Jobsite safety is no joke!

Double Black Construction
values two things equally: the quality of their building installation and the safety of their teams. We make sure everyone gets home and can rest comfortably each night!
It’s easy to differentiate good companies from others when it comes to how they handle their crew safety. The extra expense of getting proper elevators and cranes not only keeps employees safe (and saves on insurance) but ensures a better-quality build by providing a stable platform for crews to work. Precision comes down to small details, and a firm foothold allows teams to work safely and accurately while also providing a sense of confidence.
At Double Black Construction, we never forget how steel is stronger than bone. And that no apology can ever make up for a fall that could have been easily prevented. Safety is our top priority.
Recently our team saw an advertisement on LinkedIn
that included a project photo of a metal building construction site. Obviously we won’t name them, but they were a very large, national firm well experienced in commercial work. While not counting code violations specifically, we quickly saw numerous safety concerns. The four people in the image were working in icy winter conditions, not wearing helmets or harnesses, and they were using ladders and step ladders to get to the top of the 30-foot structure.
Do things the correct way or not at all
We like to post videos
and photos of our projects
and you’ll always notice the measures we take to ensure the safety of our teams. Harnesses can be cumbersome. Helmets in the summer can be hot. Renting heavy equipment is expensive. But we eat the costs (and don’t build those into our prices, so we can stay competitive) because it is the right thing to do. Providing our skilled tradespeople
with the best equipment ensures they can do the best job possible to the highest standard
and end with work results that stand the tests of time.
The work we do represents the manufacturing companies
that partner with us. In doing so, they’re demonstrating that they trust and rely on us because they know we don’t cut corners.
The consequences of poor safety oversight can be costly, in terms of human wellness, criminal prospection and financial liability. These are significant, but pale in comparison to the real cost of psychological damage, team dynamics and effectiveness of the employees who survive or witness these events. We need to remember construction companies have an obligation to value the health and wellness of their employees first.
Safety is always our priority
We never want to rely on accidents to be a reminder that safety is everyone’s concern – something to be taken serious by everyone within the organization. With smart planning, investment into ideal safety systems and equipment and a lot of care and attention, Double Black Construction
ensures our teams get home all right each night. And clients can rest assured we’re equally invested in their projects and success.
In our next article, we’ll talk about leadership’s role in job safety and why the consequences of accidents are getting greater and costlier.
