As Tough As They Come: Rodeo, Like Construction, Requires Strength, Skill and Grit

Hundreds of stampede fans in Brandon, Manitoba enjoyed the thrill of live cowboy competition, proudly sponsored by Double Black Construction.
The sounds of pounding hoofbeats, yells of exertion and cheering crowds rise as much as the clouds of dust as massive, 1,500-pound beasts kick and buck while the toughest athletes hold on for dear life to keep from flying off.
The Waywayseecappo First Nation held their annual rodeo over the July 24 to 27 weekend. It’s an exciting showcase of action between human and animal and their athletic talent. As a competitor, it’s not for the feint of heart. For the hundreds of onlookers, it’s an exhilarating spectacle that’s best enjoyed alongside the steel fencing that separates cheering fans from the chaos.
The family-friendly event featured the best athletes across Western Canada competing in traditional bull riding, barrel racing and team roping. The annual event is held adjacent to the Waywayseecappo Gas Bar and new First Nation community centre project construction site in north Brandon. <learn about the project>

Beyond the rodeo arena, visitors enjoyed a variety of other activities that appealed to a wide audience. The four-day festival offered a free community barbecue, a car show, beer tent and nightly live music, including country performances from JJ Voss and Downtown Avenue.
